Experience Overview
Day 1 and 2
Bogotá
Arrival at any time. You will be received by a member of our team who will take you to the hotel and will explain your program. Visit the Cerro de Monserrate, a monument 3.152 meters above sea level, where you will find the sanctuary of Saint Christ Fallen and a spectacular panoramic view of the capital city and the green savannah. Later, explore the Candelaria, the city’s historical district. The Chorro de Quevedo, a small plaza that marks the site of the original settlement, is sure to charm with its cobblestone streets, bohemian cafés, art galleries and museums, including the world’s largest collection of gold, housed at the Gold Museum.

Day 3 and 4
Villa de Leyva
Transfer to Villa de Leyva. On the way, visit the Salt Cathedral and Ráquira. Walk the cobblestone streets of this beautiful colonial town, with its large central plaza, unique to Latin America. Admire the white houses with elegant balconies, arches, and front doors. These were the homes and resting places of the heroes of Colombia’s independence. Hike from the high Andean jungle to the páramo, the area above the continuous tree line and an ecosystem unique to the region. Here you will find the sacred lagoon of Iguaque, the source of water and Muisca mythology, the Legend of Bachué. This is also an ideal spot for birdwatching, and for observing other flora and fauna.

Day 5 and 6
Barichara
Early in the morning, you will travel by car to Barichara, one of Colombia’s prettiest towns. On the way visit Socorro, known as the cradle of independence. Once in Barichara, walk along the cobblestone path to Guane, a little village with a rich archaeological history. Once in Guane, visit a small museum which houses an important collection of aquatic fossils, a Guane mummy, and a variety of other treasures from both the colonial and contemporary periods. Visit Barichara, one of Colombia’s prettiest towns, renowned as a fine example of colonial architecture and an oasis of tranquility. The most distinctive features include the cobblestone streets, the rammed-earth houses, the bahereque building style, mud tiles and stone monuments made by well-known Barichara’s artists.

Day 7 to 9
Chicamocha Canyon Trek
DAY 7 AND 8: This route follows the mountains from Villanueva to Jordán, a spectacular and unique landscape with invaluable Guane cave paintings. This trail is framed by the immensity of the Chicamocha Canyon. Walk a colonial cobblestone road through the marvellous landscape of La Mesa de Los Santos plateau, the Chicamocha Canyon and the village of Jordán Sube. From the distance, the town Jordán Sube looks like a scale-model, hidden in the depths of the canyon. The trail starts at the McCormick Bridge, which spans the Chicamocha River. This hanging bridge, built in the 19th century, was the first of its kind in Colombia, and marks the entrance to a Spanish-style colonial town. DAY 9: Cartagena (Vía Bogotá), arrival pick-up at the airport for a private transfer to the hotel.

Day 10 to 14
Lost City
Lost City is Colombia’s most famous hike, a 44km walk through the jungle close to Santa Marta, on the Caribbean coast, that peaks with a climb to this ancient site. The city is thought to have been built in 800AD, some 650 years before Peru’s Macchu Pichu, and only 10% of it has been excavated since it was re-discovered in the 1970s. The hike usually takes six days and hikers sleep in hammocks, accompanied by a guide and support team. The highlights of the trip are the 1.200 stone steps climbed to reach the city, which comprises around 170 terraces and plazas carved into the mountainside, and the frequent river crossings.

Day 15 to 16
Tayrona
DAY 15: Time at leisure for you to enjoy the beautiful beaches in Tayrona Natural Park.
DAY 16: Departure at any time.
